Keeping your Hawaiian luxury home in tip-top shape

The natural wonders of the Aloha State are best enjoyed from the comforts of a beautiful luxury home. In Hawaii, buying a premium property in an excellent, exclusive location is the first step to owning a prized and well valued property. If you plan to be in your home only during holidays and extended vacations, stringent housekeeping measures need to be put in practice.

Keeping a luxury estate requires full-time staff, led by an executive housekeeper. The housekeeper of your luxury home in Hawaii should be well-acquainted with the conditions in the state, especially the tropical climate and how it affects furnishings and clothing.

For example, prime properties in a waterfront location, housekeepers should take into consideration how the humidity and the salty air may affect outdoor and indoor furnishings, and act accordingly. This can mean putting artworks in enclosed rooms, choosing wooden furniture with higher natural oil content for open patios and balconies.

It will also be their responsibility to regularly inspect parts of the house that are most exposed to the elements, to check for damage: the doors and windows, chimney, furnace, and vents, and the roof and gutter. On a related note, owners of luxury homes need to find the best home cleaning materials, because they will help resist wear and tear and preserve.

To find well-kept luxury homes on the Big Island of Hawaii, call Harold Clarke, the award-winning luxury real estate expert who is also the Owner/Partner of Windermere/C and H Properties and founder of LuxuryBigIsland.com, at 808 443 1320 or email Harold@LuxuryBigIsland.com.

Oprah Winfrey’s Hawaii luxury home hosts FLOTUS

“There's a reason it's often called paradise. I am blessed that for at least two months out of the year (working on three) I get to call it home,” writes Oprah Winfrey, of her luxury estate in Hawaii, for Huffington Post.

Right next to Hawaii’s Big Island is the island of Maui, where Oprah’s sanctuary in the Pacific is located and is inspired by the informal American country style. Initially, Oprah thought of tearing down the ranch that occupied the lot, to build a homestead. But soon, with the collaboration of interior decorator Ellie Cullman, architectural designer Jeff Wooley, and the Queen of Talk herself, the property was beautifully transformed into an elegant American farmhouse.

Oprah’s luxury home in Hawaii comes with a spacious veranda that affords the occupants a relaxing view of the ocean, lots of French doors that let the fresh Hawaiian breeze in, and high ceilings. The white façade cuts a striking contrast to the green meadow where the estate sits, while a wide staircase leads to a porch that welcomes every visitor into the beautiful house.

Oprah and Ellie also handpicked every d̩cor Рfrom the embroidered curtains from India and a 19th-century American weather vane shaped as a horse, to antique Ann-Morris lamps and a 1946 masterpiece by Thomas Hart Benton.

In every way, Oprah’s Hawaiian luxury vacation home is fit for the highly influential talk show host, producer, and philanthropist, who had also been consistently listed as one of the world’s richest women. Not surprisingly, the luxury home has also recently hosted the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.

Hawaii: A Golfing Paradise

When it comes to leisure time among the well-heeled, one sport comes to mind: golf. For the supreme experience of the sport, seasoned golfers march to Hawaii, and it is easy to see why.

Blessed with well-preserved natural wonders that make for highly interesting terrains, Hawaii is home to some of the world’s best golf courses. Players who come to the islands for a vacation or in preparation for a competition can take a swing while enjoying the scenic view of the Pacific Ocean. Off the field, they can enjoy their day yachting, shopping, or exploring the state’s ancient ruins or marine habitats, all the while breathing in its palpable laidback vibe.

Arguably the most popular of the golf clubs in Hawaii would be the 18-hole Hualalai Golf Course, designed by the famed American professional golfer Jack Nicklaus. Annually hosting the prestigious Mitsubishi Electric Championship, the meticulously groomed field has been consistently described as a “dramatic course.” A golf club that offers top-of-the-line golfing gear and equipment is also open to welcome visitors to Hawaii.

Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux might marry in Hawaii

Months ago, talks surfaced about America’s sweetheart and Friends alumna Jennifer Aniston and actor-director Justin Theroux getting married in Hawaii. While the still-radiant 45 year-old actress has denied the reports, the idea is not too far-fetched.

In 2011, the two jetted off to Hawaii for a vacation, in time for Justin’s 40th birthday. They stayed at a 3,104 square foot estate along Kauapea Road in Kilauea, located in the northeastern shore of Kauai. The luxury villa had exquisite tropical interiors, retractable walls that open up to a dazzling view of the Pacific Ocean, and perfectly manicured lawn that that leads to a stunning outdoor pool.

From their luxury home in Hawaii, the two were treated to magnificent views of paradisiac beaches and deep blue waters, as well as the laidback vibe the island is known for. Locals spotted the handsome couple shopping, getting a massage, jogging by the oceanfront, or biking around their luxury vacation home.

Hawaii has since been reportedly described by Justin as his favorite place in the world, and a very much welcome respite from the media frenzy in Tinseltown. The two were then thought to have toyed with the idea of tying the knot in the beautiful, sunny island, in an intimate ceremony that will most likely see Jen’s closest friends, Courteney Cox, Ben Stiller, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ed Sheeran flying to Hawaii.

Like Jennifer and Justin, you can find your own luxury vacation home in Hawaii.

Sail away in Hawaii

The wind blowing through your hair. The seawater gently splashing on your face from time to time. The wonderful sight of seagulls perching on the crest of waves one moment, and catching flight the next. Best of all, the exhilarating feeling of witnessing the sun retiring to the cloak of nighttime. There truly is no pastime quite like yachting.

In the scenic state of Hawaii, yachting is a highly favored recreational activity among the wealthy residents or vacationers, who can find anchorages and harbors in most of the islands. Cruisers can enjoy flat water sail, taking advantage of what is called the Kona winds, or the Southerly winds that blow as a result of high pressure moving to the West.

In addition, yachting enthusiasts in Hawaii can marvel at marine creatures that thrive in the island’s reserves – from dolphins and humpback whales, to monk seals, sea turtles, and sea cucumbers. In fact, the state prides itself in being home to one of the world's most important humpback whale habitats.

After a day of cruising in Hawaii, you can then rest in your very own luxury vacation home. In Hawaii’s Big Island, luxury villas located in highly exclusive subdivisions are waiting to become your home in the Pacific.
